“In the end, almost all men, deceived by a false good or a false glory, allow themselves, either willingly or through ignorance, to pass into the ranks of those who deserve more blame than praise, and having the capacity to create, to their everlasting honour, either a republic or a kingdom, they turn to tyranny, failing to realize how much fame, how much glory, how much honour, security, tranquillity, and peace of mind they are losing through this choice, and how much infamy, disgrace, blame, danger, and anxiety they incur.” - Machiavelli [Discourses on Livy, 1.10]
#CanadaHasFallen
By any standards it is no longer a free state. Instead of negotiating with the truckers, and ending the covid regime, Trudeau has invoked the Emergency Powers Act, the successor to the War Powers Act, for the first time in Canadian history. And what threat does Canada face? Is it an invasion? Violent terrorists? Assassinations? Quebecois separatists like his father?
No, indeed, the emergency is simply some people camped out in their trucks shutting down the capital and causing some minor annoyance to the political class. He didn’t try negotiating, he didn’t try removing his unnecessary vaccine mandates, he didn’t try normal police action, he didn’t try to tolerate it: instead he went straight for the nuclear option. Even the editorial board of the Toronto Sun, Canada’s largest private newspaper, said that Trudeau has gone to far, and points out that to the extent this is an emergency it is wholly caused by his incompetence. It seems all of the worlds fading neo-liberal cabal looked to this goofy coward to be the iron fist on burgeoning global protests, since unlike BLM riots these truckers are not the right kind of protestors.
What powers does this give Trudeau? Well for one thing they can suspend the bank accounts of truckers, remove their insurance, and take their licenses. Further, anyone sending them money can be prosecuted under terrorism funding legislation. This is nothing be despotism. And there are no legal protections in any of this, the Canadian government doesn’t have to show anything. Trudeau can simply shut down your right to live in the country. He can do this to anyone, for any reason. In his speech announcing emergency powers, he notably didn’t mention covid a single time. He isn’t even pretending this has anything to do with disease mitigation, it is solely about obedience, as this has been the entire time.
Canada is no longer a democratic country, it is under one man rule. And this shameless motherfucker had the gall to tweet this:

I judge that it would be impossible for him to have said something that was more opposite of the truth than this tweet. But as I’m always saying, one of the few impressive things about these people is their constant ability to open up new frontiers in shamelessness.
Anyhow, something interesting that I observed is that while Biden has gone around saying nonsense about how anyone who supports voter ID will be remembered as Bull Connor, meanwhile, the Ottawa police chief Sloly resigned yesterday, a man who quite literally could have been remembered as Bull Connor had he stayed on and enforced Trudeau’s severe crackdown on the civil liberties of all Canadians. Of course, he claimed to have resigned due to his failure to quell the protests- these people never speak out because they want cushy high-paid private security jobs when all is over. But still, he had the decency to not be the public face of Trudeau’s crackdown, or at least the sense of a rat fleeing a sinking ship.
How and why did it come to this? There is not really a clear answer, besides greed and lust for power. It was noted by a friend some time ago that these people are pathologically unable to declare victory. The public, propagandized to fear disease their entire lives and then duped and flustered by non-stop hysterical media coverage, tolerated the covid tyranny very well: indeed many loved it. But it was always obvious it couldn’t last forever. Why, then, did they not just call it a day once everyone who wanted one could get a vaccine? They didn’t even try to exit with their regime or any credibility intact.
You know early on, the people who said we would need to wait until there was a vaccine to open things seemed completely crazy. Even most of us crazy conspiracy theorists didn’t think they would take it farther than that. But indeed, they kept pushing as many tests as possible, which serve no purpose but to continue the “pandemic.” It does seem that it has brought to light that this was all a combination of a scam to sell medical supplies and a general grotesque lust for power among our pathetic neo-liberal political class. These people believe in literally nothing but arcane rules and transferring taxpayer dollars to multinational corporations.
And because they had to exit covid policies this way, it’s essentially impossible to deny this was ever about anything but politics, since they didn’t let off due to any indications that the threat of the disease had subsided, it was simply a threat to their power that grew.
Either way, though the bridge has been cleared, the protest in the capital remains, and this tinpot dictator ain’t having it. To be sure, this bodes terribly for everyone, for now.
Canada is seen as a model of civil liberties. As a gentle and agreeable country. The global public had forgotten that there even was an iron fist behind the Canadian government’s velvet glove. But, to again quote Polybius, “Every government has a source of corruption growing within it, from which it is inseparable…for democracy it is government by brute force.” [6.10] And that is where Canada has landed. Bereft of legitimacy, courage, or anything resembling decency, the only thing the Canadian government has left is brute force.
The ridiculous thing is, they don’t even be able to appear to do anything with brute force. If I didn’t hate these people so much, I would almost feel bad for them. They aren’t even competent enough to physically remove the protestors. The only question now, is if their regime will die a slow and pathetic death or a very rapid and dramatic one. Will Trudeau leave anything for Canadians, or, like the tyrant Dionysius of Syracuse, “Resolve to bury his falling tyranny in the ruins of the city.” [Plutarch, Dion, 44]
Only time will tell, but I very much hope for a rapid and dramatic end to the regime of Trudeau and all of the other corporatist center-left freedom-hating hacks who run the world’s major powers. Please, make it vicious.
To again quote Machiavelli, “ What writers on civic life say is very true—that once it has recovered its liberty, a people bites more ferociously than when it has only managed to preserve it.” [Discourses, 1.28] And man, do I look forward to seeing these assholes get bit by the people.
PS: As usual, Tucker’s coverage of this is excellent. He is truly the leader of the popular party, and the most important demagogue in America today. If you haven’t yet, watch this:
