Oh man, I was planning on having mashed potatoes with dinner tonight.

Of course, they’ll be surrounded by butter and red meat

Well, I think that constitutes using them as a “sauce” lol

Cobbett sounds like a very impressive myth buster and shrewd observer of the mind set of elites. When visiting an Irish castle, we were told that the rich used bread during their feasts to clean their greasy hands. That bread was handed out to the poor for food. Elite disdain for the peasants but at least no potato. Of course, high protein meat was reserved for the rich.

Yes Cobbett was the greatest populist of his era. I don't know if you read part one but I go more into all of that. One of his publications was known as "The Poor Man's Friend", which was also a title given to one of his biographies.

Create a fashion, and then let people think they are fashionable.

It's unsurprising, and a point I battle with, that a few elite may have begun, with good intention, control of idiots. If I had the money, would I not try steer people in more sane direction?

yeah I kind of struggled to make good comparisons throughout this because there were so many to choose from but I figured readers didn't need me to belabor the point
