Fraudulently scamming the gov’t sounds like melting pot assimilation in this fire sale nation. Compared to Zelensky or tech lords it’s peanuts.

Something I forgot to say but really should have, is that in Abukar Arman's book Broken Camel Bells, which I reviewed a couple of years ago (https://www.thewaywardrabbler.com/p/book-review-broken-camel-bells) he talked about how Somalia used to have a balance between nomads and sedentary people (as I said, southern Somalia is suitable for agriculture, and has in fact seen some good growth in banana plantations over the last few decades...Mussolini's promise to Italians about how colonizing Somalia would improve their life was "one banana a day per Italian" lmao.)

Anyway there are positive and negative traits to both aspects of Somali culture, but for obvious reasons the collapse of government caused the nomadic Somalis to become completely dominant, and it is largely what is Somali culture now. One assumes that Somalis who fled the country had a strong tendency towards being sedentary instead of nomadic, giving their greater resources and education etc, but regardless given the internet and the obvious closeness the diaspora has to the home country, one assumes that young Somalis in America and Europe are heavily influenced to seed the nomadism as the true Somali culture.
