Good to hear from actual local people who know what they are talking about. Everyone I know is relieved by the outcome. The only people upset are people who stood to gain from the shit-show of a trial.

yeah you know I didn't quite 100% put it together on the show and was thinking about it more later, but if the defense's story was that his knife was stolen and that sent him into a sort of paranoid breakdown fearing it was used for that, it presents a fairly credible alternative theory that covers most of the circumstantial evidence.

It's always challenging as a journalist or podcaster or anything else to try to be ethical about this sort of thing and to not want bad things to happen because it's good for your content etc. The trial definitely would have been a zoo that was a huge boon for all of the true crime people etc.

Honestly, based on some things I know, I question the motives of one of the families and their desire for a long drawn out circus of a trial. I'm honestly shocked I haven't seen anyone writing about the behavior. I know it's taboo to question the motives of people close to tragedy, but I know from intimate personal experience that being blood relation to someone, even in the case of the most close genetic tie, doesn't mean there's genuine caring. Often just the opposite.

yeah some of them had pretty checkered family backgrounds, and Steve Goncalves has been a problem for everyone the whole time
