As far as the discussion regarding the EU leadership is concerned, I think it’s noteworthy how little regard the oligarch elite have for the general public. As you eluded, they are consistently not only making the wrong decision for their populace but the exact opposite of what would benefit them the most. The same can be said for the US, Canada and Australia governing class.

Russia and China seem to be operating with much less hostility to its native population. For example, Putin’s transformation of the quality of life for the common Russian since the early 2000’s to now is remarkable and justifies his immense popularity among his constituents.

I often wonder who exactly keeps voting for the likes of Trudeau or Macron or Merkel? At least with Trump he feigned some semblance of populace rhetoric.

Lastly, when you commented about the heads of European states all sitting before Trump: I just think this demonstrates how the machine of the EU has given up its economic sovereignty to the international financial community, and this community is now represented within the Oval Office (not Trump).

They’ve given up productive economies and decided to allow private equity firms extract wealth and use the metric of GDP as a measuring stick for financial growth. Often, that wealth is just laundered back into the stock market but nothing real is being produced, not even when it comes to having commensurate military hardware to those countries being threatened: Iran, Russia and China.

I somewhat strange thing has happened over time where the ritual of elections and superficial leadership changes have caused such countries to feel they don't need to worry about the consent of the governed, whereas no matter how stable more authoritarian regimes are they have a degree of an actual violent overthrow.

Outside of Macron, who comes in with 25~ in the first round, this is part of the thing about Parliamentary systems, you only have to charm one district which isnt so bad when you can direct a lot of funds there due to your position etc. Same premise as why the Speaker of the House is almost always fucking terrible and not at all appealing.
