I can’t help but to think of Hillary Clinton as I read this article. From my personal experience she is the Don of pantsuit politics. I lived in Eugene, OR when she lost the presidential election in 2016. Eugene has both this boomer hippy class as well as a now fully bloomed anti-fa contingent. The hysteria that resulted from this very liberal cohort upon realizing Hillary Clinton would not be president was shocking. People I knew were wearing safety pins the day after to demonstrate that they were allies against the wave of hatred that Trump’s election apparently codified. I would sit and sip at the bar, talking to supposed radicalized anti-fa folks who would boast of the work they did for the Clinton Foundation. My jaw would drop back into my beer every time someone costumed as a Sex Pistols roadie or someone else with gray dreadlocks would lecture me about my ambivalence towards the election results. If anything I was giddy about the rejection of the Pantsuit. Therefore I would be condemned as a sexist whilst the bartender begrudgingly served me another. They were all as radical as Amy Goodman- aside from a willingness to punch someone in blind-sided fashion that they viewed as fascist. Oh, how the pantsuit liberal, the middle class dread lock laden boomer and the descendant anti-fa persona were tethered! They kissed the mirror with moral superiority.
Clearly naive, I would refer to the continuity in foreign policy from Bill Clinton to George Bush to Barack Obama…that voting for democrat or republican isn’t really radical…that punching people in the face without provocation isn’t a moral position…
I’ve gone on too long already but I just need to quickly mention that Hillary Clinton-clad in pantsuit-recently suggested civil and criminal punishment for those engaged in (Russian) disinformation. Obviously, issues of the constitution be damned. Hopefully the children of the pantsuit archetype will become mothers of a nation.
Don’t buy it though. Numbers don’t add up. I have no doubt that politicians would like to throttle immigration the exact amount they feel will keep them in power, especially right before elections. But that’s been true for decades and the Great Replacement continues.
There comes a point were there are enough immigrants that you don’t have to worry about elections anymore. This happened in most American cities and big states like CA, IL, and NY. Once that threshold is reached all restraint is abandoned. The goal of the pantsuit is to get to that threshold without pushback, but pushback can be managed as long as you’re still working toward the goal. I mean when Hillary lost, it’s not like she ended up in the gutter, and they were able to open the floodgates four years later.
If you really want to reverse the trend you need something like a coup that puts the pantsuits out of power for real.
In the very best of all possible circumstances (COVID, Cubans), Latinos still voted at a lower GOP rate than whites.
One thing we can learn from DeSantis is that Latinos aren't pro-immigration by default. The old GOP hoped that immigration could be the one weird trick to win over Hispanics, but it's not.
IMO, FL/TX and Europe are where CA/NY were in the 1990s. Remember when CA/NY elected republicans and the 1996 Democratic platform basically called for mass deportations.
right but I mean he still won a majority of them, including 56% of Puerto Ricans.
And yeah it has actually been obvious for a long time that Hispanics don't all favor mass immigration I don't know why it took so long for the political parties to figure that out. The Democrat assumption that they want open borders and welfare doesn't really reflect Hispanics as a voting bloc but Republicans haven't done a great job of getting them either.
It needs to be noted that the Republicans have changed a lot since 1996 as have white people in California and New York. The general ethnic patronage system is for sure leading us to disaster with mass immigration, I just don't think it necessarily plays partisan in the way that is commonly believed.
If he won a majority of them when he got 65% of whites, how will he do when he gets 51% of whites?
I think Hispanics don't care about immigration (maybe they even don't like it), but they do like welfare. They would't call it welfare. They would call it "Eds and Meds". But an ACA subsidy is welfare.
We tested this in 2012. Romney ran as Reagan 2.0. He won the same % of whites as Reagan did when he was winning landslides. But Hispanics wanted Obamacare subsidies paid for by white people. Romney bottomed out with minorities in 2012 despite being a sell out on immigration because he wouldn't give them more Eds and Meds welfare. He lost the election.
Republicans have changed a lot. They gave up on entitlement reform and they don't fight the Eds and Meds racket anymore. That's what they had to do to win over the more downscale median voter of the current year.
This was predicted in The Bell Curve in 1994. That the GOP would transform into a Latin America style Conservative Party to reflect the new Latin American electorate.
I mean, Romney was also a venture capitalist who looks like the guy who laid off while we were still living through the interminable financial crisis.
Regardless, I think in the long enough term they are likely to learn that hordes of third world men will not accept rule by neurotic women with master's degrees.
The idea of pantsuit deporting sounds appealing and fun. I suppose that, in an effectively bankrupt country like Italy that doesn’t control its own currency or central bank, there is limited room to manoeuvre and theoretically a softer approach may work. However, so far there are limited dividends. The alternative theory is that Meloni is just getting played (see Fisted by Foucault on Twitter).
She is accruing political capital, so let’s see if she manages to push through any reforms that bring the judiciary under control. I’ll also be interested to see if she protects Salivini in his fight against Communist judges trying to toss him in prison. For me that’s a litmus test of her sincerity and effectiveness.
Personally I think that Europe will only be able to turn around if the AfD gets a share of genuine power in Germany. Germany still runs the EU and currently uses its power to punish nationalists in other countries.
As always, you can tell who is a genuine threat to the system from the reaction against them.
The other point is that signals matter in deterring new entrants. A Trump or Salvini loudly telling them to stay home may accomplish something, but a soft spoken hidden deportation regime is no deterrent.
Yes that was a big problem with Biden, his comments were really amplified in Spanish language media too, but the Libyans Meloni is paying to stop people from leaving are not friendly.
Yes it is more likely this is a sideshow than that it actually gets anywhere, but masses of 3rd world men in sufficient numbers will never accept the rule of neurotic women with Master's Degrees, we'll see if they realize that in time.

Hah, yeah if you look up “pantsuit” on Wikipedia there is a picture of Hillary Clinton. She is the most famous pantsuit wearer.
Cool Story Bro

I don't believe the premise that immigration gives Democrats a permanent majority. Look at the DeSantis 2022 numbers in Florida.
In the very best of all possible circumstances (COVID, Cubans), Latinos still voted at a lower GOP rate than whites.
